Seek to Investigate The Implications of Artificial Intelligence For Humanity

Everywhere you look, now there is some form of artificial intelligence appearing. Whether it’s to make a process more efficient or whether it’s to keep humans safe and away from danger, robots are creeping in at every chance they get, and this is expected to carry on for quite some years to come. Now, a new center has been launched in Cambridge, England that will look to continue the study of AI more closely along with the implications that come with these marvelous machines.

The Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI) has one aim: “to work together to ensure that we humans make the best of the opportunities of artificial intelligence as it develops over coming decades.” It’s a collaboration between four top universities which are Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, and Berkeley, and has the full backing and support of the Leverhulme Trust.

There will be seven projects of focus at the CFI over the next three years and will cover things like autonomous weapons, and responsible innovation. Professor Stephen Hawking was at the launch of the VFI, and he commented, “Success in creating AI could be the biggest event in the history of civilization….it could also be the last unless we learn how to avoid the risks.”  As part of his speech at the opening, Professor Hawking goes on to describe how he feels computers are simply emulating human intelligence and what the human mind can do a computer can do, only better.

AI is a fast accelerating area of study and a lot of valuable time and research is being put into from all corners of the globe to try and get the right mix between robots and humans and ensure we are safe in the process. The massive benefits that AI will bring and undeniable, and as long as humans remain responsible at the same time, there is no reason why AI can not be integrated into every aspect of our lives.
