The 2016/2017 Formula E season is due to start on the 9th October in Hong Kong, and companies are eagerly preparing their cars for what they hope will be the new winner of the season. Formula E is still a relatively new edition in the world of auto racing that allows only electric powered cars to compete in the race, and now Audi wants in on the piece of the action.
Audi have a history of doing well in the Formula One series, so why not give it a go with the Formula E? They are not the only ones either. Earlier this year Jaguar announced they too were going to join in on the fun and created their team to drive in the 2016/2017 season.

It’s not uncommon for Audi to test out its cars in a race environment and then develop it for the common market. This can be seen clearly with the Quattro and Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport comments, “Audi has consistently been using motorsport to test and develop new technologies further for subsequent use in production. With Quattro Drive we revolutionized rally racing and subsequently set standards in circuit racing as well.”
Audi was, in fact, the first manufacturer to have achieved victories with a TFSI engine, a TDI, and a hybrid race car in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. So, with Audi, Jaguar, DS Automobiles (Citroen/Peugeot), and Renault all adding to the Formula E teams, will this be the next big race to follow and will Formula One soon begin to fade out?
