More Innovative Creations Come Are Way With These Wall Climbing Robots

Prepare to be amazed at these innovative, little wall climbing robot devices that are able to build items right in front of your very eyes.  It takes 3-D printing to a whole new level.  This crazy invention was designed by Maria Yablonina and is named The Mobile Robotic Fabrication System for Filament Structures.

These funky, little wall climbing robots crawl along walls to weave carbon filaments into webbed-like forms.  A hammock is the best example of what these robots are capable of creating, but they can be used to create other items too.  By the two robots working together and passing a bobbin between them in a kiss-like motion, they are able to create full-sized, hammocks with no trouble at all.  The robots must currently be powered through an external cable for them to be able to run their fans and create the suction needed to stick to the walls.

Maria is currently a student at the University of Stuttgart’s Institute for Computational Design and hopes to use this creation to develop further technologies.  It’s a swarm construction method that can be adapted to be used almost anywhere. Maria envisions a team of these wall-climbing robots working together that will enable much larger structures, such as buildings, to be developed.  She would like the process to be as simple as an operator arriving on site with a suitcase holding all the necessary robots to complete the task, undoing the case, and away they go.
