Tesla has already announced there will soon be a minibus and semi-truck to be added to the collection of electric vehicles, but so far, not many details have been disclosed. Elon Musk originally said we would see these two vehicles unveiled next year, but it seems plans may be moving quicker than expected and the multi-billionaire is now stating we should see expect to see more progress in as little as six months.
Although Tesla’s main focus for the moment still lies with the Model 3, soon it will shift to autonomous driving, then on to the Model Y. After these ventures are underway successfully, the Minibus and Semi will finally get the limelight, but consumers can expect this to be at least 2018. But, that doesn’t mean that the process hasn’t begun, and designs are already being drawn up for both of these models.
The Tesla minibus doesn’t require too much new design work being done as is going to built using the Model X chassis, so half the work has already been done for them. Plans for the semi are also in serious talks with top executive and former director of the Model S program, and Jerome Guillen is handed the reigns for this new business venture.
Elon Musk doesn’t mess around and when he says he is going to do something he does it. Part 1 of his master plan was achieved gracefully, and part 2 is already underway successfully. If Tesla has their way, we all be in electric vehicles by the time 2020 comes along, whether it is a car, truck or bus, so watch this space see what they will think of next.
