Scientists Prove Traditional IQ Tests Useless

Recent studies have been carried out that have been looking into the best that we can measure a person’s intelligence.  Once upon a time, several years ago, humans did not really understand all the different parts of the brain and how they all interact with one another.  As a result, intelligence tests were produced that are now being proved to be completely inaccurate and here we explain why.

Scientists from the Western University in Ontario, Canada carried out research that confirmed that what society regards as intelligence is influenced by our short term memory, reasoning and verbal ability. By using MRI scans to take an image of the brain scientists were able to gain significant insight into the different parts of the brain, how they interact with one another and essentially how intellect actually works.

Professor Jianfeng Feng of the University of Warwick, together with a team in China concluded from the study that the more variable a brain is and the more the different parts interact and connect with one another, the higher a person’s IQ is.   This contradicts traditional IQ tests such as Mensa’s who require a person to have an IQ of at least 148 to join their club with there very stringent test.  While the test has been around for quite some time, does it really reflect a person’s intelligence if it is only concentrating on one narrow area of comprehension?

Not according to Dr. Adrian Owen, British neuroscientist based at the Western University in Ontario, Canada. He believes that these traditional IQ tests are pretty useless and the only thing that is does prove is whether or not a person is good at taking IQ tests.  The conclusion of the study of 100,000 people was that there was no evidence to support that there is a single uniform concept of intelligence that is measurable and able to be put into a number.
