One Step Closer To Commercial Space Travel as NASA Team Up With Blue Origin

Have you ever dreamed of delving into the unknown and drifting up into the edge of space just like that of an astronaut? Well, your dreams may soon become reality as NASA team up with the aerospace company, Blue Origin.

Blue Origin was originally founded by Amazon mogul, Jeff Bezos, who created the company to concentrate on sub-orbital spaceflight. The company formed back in 2000, has always been slightly secretive with its plans and its existence did not even become public knowledge until 2003. But now that NASA has signed a partnership deal with the spaceflight organization, we may be hearing about them quite a bit more in the near future.

The duo combines their knowledge and expertise to devise new technologies that will eventually enable the public to experience the trip of a lifetime using Blue Origin’s reusable New Shephard rocket. Enclosed in a six man capsule situated a rocket, you will be launched into space to more than 100km high. Once in position, and detached from the rocket, the capsule will float off into space.

You will then be able to unhook your safety harness and experience the feeling of weightlessness as you take in the magnificent views of space and the Earth below you. Before your descend you will experience the force of over 5 Gs before the parachutes of the craft deploy and your speed is slowed, with the assistance of the thrusters, and you land safely back on Earth.

NASA have also teamed up with other space tourism companies, including Virgin Galactic and World View Enterprises, so it is clear they are very serious to get commercial spaceflight in operation. It may not be long before we can add a spaceship to our list of travel methods, and with NASA now on board with Blue Origin, the team are hopeful to have human spaceflight possible as early as 2018.
