Daimler Plans to Have %25 of its Production Being Electric by 2025

Latest Hot DEALS

Daimler has been slowly creeping in with its electric vehicle ideas for a while now. Last year saw the automobile giants showcasing at the Paris Motor Show what we are likely to be seeing from them in the near future, and it comes in the form of an electric vehicle – the first of its kind under the Daimler name.

The company may be a little slow off the mark when it comes to electric vehicles but are hoping to turn that around by having a quarter of its production being electric by 2025, with a whopping $11 billion investment going into the first models to be released. “By 2025 we want to develop ten electric cars based on the same architecture”, says Daimler board member, Thomas Weber.

“By 2025 Daimler wants to develop 10 electric cars based on the same architecture.”

Volkswagen is also a name that’s closing in ranks in the EV industry and their plans include building between 2 and 3 million electric cars every year, over 30 new models, by 2025. But, one area that Daimler is ahead in is that it will be heavily involved in its own battery production, whereas VW is still contemplating the idea.

The other big German name in the auto industry, BMW, has been involved in the EV market for a while now, so are no new players to the game, but sales for them have not been quite as high as anticipated. So, it may be back to the drawing board for them.
