The Rise of Quantum Computing

Latest Hot DEALS

The real rise of quantum computing came from back in 1980 with the help of Paul Benioff and Yuri Mann who started many of the primitive theories that are still discussed today.  Still, within the 1980’s, others that also contributed to this field were Richard Feynman in 1982, and David Deutsch in 1985.  But, with all the research and studies that have been conducted over the past few decades, scientists are still far away in uncovering all there is to know about the world of quantum computing.

Various ideas have been centered around quantum computing, including the proposed use of quantum money by Stephen Wiesner back in 1970 that would have been impossible to fake, but so far the technology is just not there yet to make it work properly and so has been put on the back burner for now.  John Bell is another name that many may recognize in the world of quantum computing.  Bell proved that it was possible to use entanglement to have one particle predict the behavior of the other one.

Later on down the line, Charlie Bennett and colleague Gilles Brassard decided to develop Bell’s theory further and in 1993 unveiled the details of the famous quantum teleportation experiment.  But Bennett, now an IBM Fellow and considered to be one of the founders of quantum information theory was unable to stop there and wanted to use quantum to compute information rather than just relay it.  But, that is much easier to say than to do.

The potential of quantum computing is huge, and IBM is one company that are frantically trying to get to the bottom of it.  Having been involved in the world of quantum computing for some time now, they are making good progress and have even produced their prototype quantum computer that is available in the cloud for students to use and learn from.  Quantum computing will keep advancing until there is a new notion that comes on board and quantum physics will eventually become a thing of the past.  But, until that day there is still much to be uncovered surrounding its use and capabilities.
