Mobile phones have been around since way back in the 1970’s. However, they were not used commercially in the USA until 1983.  The number of people today with a smartphone is estimated to be over 2.6 billion, and the figure is estimated to soar to a whopping 5.9 billion by 2020!  For any tech-savvy company that has a connection to mobile phones, this is a gold mine opportunity for increasing sales, and there are more companies than ever fighting for that precious mobile keyboard space.

One thing that has become increasing popular over the past few years is mobile apps.  Introduced in 2008, you can now download an app at the click of a button for almost anything, whether it is a game, social network, a navigation system, or any other form of an app you are looking for.  Tech companies have realized how much money has been made from these app sales and have taken it one step further by now using keyboard space to implement their apps.

PayKey is one company that has recognized the potential money to be made by using keyboard space for their app.  Their app allows users to send money to others by tapping one button on their mobile keyboard.  Another company to join in the fight for space is Giphy. Giphy is already well known in the app industry, but they too have also taken a new stance and introduced Giphy Keys, which is a keyboard app that allows users to browse, search and share GIFs in their text messages.

As well as these two reasonably new companies, there are also some multi-billion corporations launching products in the way of keyboard apps.  Both Google and Microsoft have ventured into this domain with the release of the Gboard and Word Flow for iOS, respectively.  Currently, the world of keyboard apps has not yet taken off quite as well as hoped for some, but there is a definite potential for these companies to soar within this niche market, so watch this space!
