AT&T and Intel Wants to Connect Drones With 4G Network For Fly Further

Latest Hot DEALS

Drones are becoming more and more important in daily life, and AT&T are hoping to connect them, in the same way, they want to connect cities and cars.

Joining forces with Intel, they are hoping to find a way to fit drones with 4G LTE connectivity. If they achieve this, it will play a significant role in allowing drones to fly higher than normal. Initial work will be viewed in Barcelona as it will be shown via the Intel Drone Zone at the Mobile Word Congress trade show.

This partnership further advances drone technology as both companies look to drones as a delivery vehicle and source of photography and residents want them as fly as a hobby. Drones are limited at present as they use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but with cell phone network assistance, their limits will now be battery length.

Head of connected services at AT&T, Chris Penrose explained that already images and information was being moved to much greater areas. The problem is however that until restrictions on travel distances are revoked by the US Federal Aviation Administration; there can only be tests.

As well as photography and delivery, the new connectivity would allow streaming and flight information to be returned by the drone. Many industries would benefit if this were made possible. Intel’s New Technology Group Vice President Anil Nanduri says there is “high potential” and areas that could be covered will be “providing emergency relief.” There would also be less risk of using cell phone network rather than Wi-Fi.

There are however issues such as areas with lack of coverage, but AT&T believe new connectivity will help. There are still questions to be answered, but in the meantime, Intel has Realsense image Recognition technology to promote.
